Volendam is a famous tourist fishing place in Holland, located 20 km from Amsterdam. It is part of the municipality “Edam-Volendam” and Volendam counts about 16500 inhabitants.
In the early days the main source of income for Volendam was fishing.

Volendam is well known for its traditional and colorful costume. Worldwide our costume is seen as the national Dutch costume but off course these were only worn in Volendam. There are other tourist places in Holland where they wear different types of traditional costumes. You can learn a lot by visiting our museum
